If you’ve been watching your blog traffic slowly decline, you’re not alone.
AI has changed how people search. Google’s rolling out AI summaries. ChatGPT and Perplexity are answering people’s questions without sending them to your site. And if you’ve spent years writing blogs to rank on Google… it probably feels a little like the rug’s been pulled out from under you.
So naturally, a question a lot of business owners are asking right now is…
Is SEO still worth it? Or are we flogging a dead horse?
The short answer? SEO isn’t dead – but it has evolved. If your strategy hasn’t, it’s probably not going to work for you for much longer.
There are definitely some dead horses… but there are still some ponies that are alive and kicking too!
Why Traditional SEO Isn’t Working Like It Used To
There’s been a big shift in how people search – and how search engines behave.
For years, SEO was about writing valuable content, targeting the right keywords, and earning your spot on page one.
And for a while, that worked. People searched. They clicked. You got traffic, leads, and sales.
But now? AI is doing the heavy lifting. Ask a question and you get a neat, AI-generated summary. You don’t need to scroll. You don’t need to click. You barely need to think.
That means fewer people are landing on your site – even if you’re still ranking.
It’s not that your content’s bad. It’s that Google (and other AI engines) are scraping the answers and handing them to users before they even reach you.
And if your SEO strategy is still relying on blog traffic and keyword rankings alone… you’re going to feel the drop.
But before you throw it all in and
declare SEO officially over, there’s something important to understand.
AI Hasn’t Killed All Search – Just Some of It

What Should You Be Doing Instead?
Start by thinking beyond Google. People aren’t just using search engines anymore – they’re using AI tools. And if your brand doesn’t show up there, you’re invisible to a growing chunk of your market.
Getting listed in platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini is going to be just as important as getting on page one. And unlike traditional SEO, there’s no easy plug-in to fix that. It’s about building authority, being referenced in credible places, and structuring your content in a way that AI can understand and pull from.
At the same time, if your business serves a specific area – even if you’re not technically “local” – Google Maps is still prime real estate. Transactional searches (like “coach in London” or “done-for-you marketing support UK”) still bring up Maps listings before anything else. And people do click. So if your Google Business Profile is half-finished or gathering dust, now’s the time to sort it out.
And finally – diversify. Relying on Google traffic alone is a dangerous game in 2025. Start building content that works across platforms. YouTube. LinkedIn. Email. Even a podcast if you’ve got something worth saying. You want your audience to find you wherever they are – not just when they’re in research mode.
SEO Isn’t Dead. But It Is Different.
If you’re still writing content the same way you were five years ago, and wondering why your leads have slowed down – this is why.
The way people search has changed. The tools they use have changed. And the kind of content that actually gets seen and drives action? That’s changed too.
But here’s the opportunity: most of your competitors are still behind the curve. Still blogging for rankings. Still hoping Google will do the heavy lifting. Which means if you get smart now, you’ve got a huge head start.
This is what we help clients do – build a marketing system that’s fit for how people actually buy in 2025. One that works with AI, not against it. That gets seen. That drives results. And that doesn’t rely on guesswork, fluff, or algorithms to do the hard work.
Because traffic doesn’t matter if it doesn’t turn into anything.
What Next?
SEO isn’t dead. But it has changed – and your marketing needs to keep pace. That means thinking beyond Google rankings and building a system that works across AI, search, and every other channel where your audience is paying attention.
