I’ve never been good with repetition and routine. I’m still not.
Do the same task once? Fine. Twice? Tolerable. By the third time? I’m irritable, rushed and frustrated.
When I was younger, I saw that as a weakness. It made me impatient, restless, frustrated. But in business? It’s turned out to be one of my biggest strengths.
You see, here’s the thing… growth is built on repetition.
The same actions – generating leads, following up, onboarding clients, delivering consistently – need to happen again and again if you want results you can rely on.
That repetition is what builds momentum.
It’s what keeps clients, happy, staff motivated and it’s what turns one good month into a strong quarter, and one strong quarter into a thriving business.
But here’s the catch: if you are the one repeating everything, you’ll hit a ceiling fast. Doing the same task over and over drains your energy, eats your time, and eventually stalls your growth.
The good news is… there’s a simple solution.
Stop Being the Bottleneck
If you want your business to grow, you can’t be the bottleneck. And honestly – why would you want to be?
You didn’t build a business to enslave you. You built it to serve you. To give you freedom, not tie you to every repetitive task that has to get done.
Thankfully, with AI, automation and all the tools available now, you don’t have to work quite so hard. You don’t have to be the one holding everything together.
The system I teach my clients does three things: it saves them time, money and stress. It gives their team and clients consistency. And it creates the structure needed for scalable growth.
It’s simple:
1. Systemise – so things run the same way every time.
2. Automate – so the boring, repeat tasks happen without you.
3. Delegate – so you can focus on the bits only you can do.
Put those in place and suddenly growth isn’t heavy or chaotic. You’re no longer stuck repeating the same tasks. You’re leading a business that works for you.
Systemise: Build the Machine Once
Every business runs on systems – whether you’ve built them on purpose or not. And if you haven’t, the result is always the same: chaos.
Look at McDonald’s. No matter where you go in the world, you’ll get the same burger, the same fries, the same experience. It’s not because they’ve hired rockstar staff in every branch. It’s because their systems are watertight. The machine runs consistently – even if there’s a 16 year old behind the counter.
Michael Gerber’s book The E-Myth nails this point – and is well worth a read if you’re new to the concept of systemising your business.
Businesses don’t usually fail because the owner isn’t good enough. They fail because the owner is stuck reinventing the wheel every single day. No systems. No consistency. Just firefighting.
So how do you know if you’re running without proper systems?
Work feels messy and reactive
You’re reinventing the same processes again and again
Team members keep coming back with the same questions
Results vary depending on who’s doing the task
You feel like everything grinds to a halt unless you step in
Get the systems right and everything shifts: work gets easier, results are more reliable, and growth becomes possible without you being at the centre of every single thing.
Automate: Take the Humans Out of the Loop (Where It Makes Sense)
Once you’ve systemised, the next step is to automate. Build the machine first – then hand as much of it as possible to tech.
Now, let me be clear: I’m not about replacing people or cutting staff. What automation does is strip away the boring, repetitive tasks so your team can focus on the work that’s valuable, creative, and actually makes a difference.
It’s also not about losing the human touch. Your clients still want to feel looked after. They don’t want to be shoved through a robotic funnel. The trick is to automate the right things – the admin, the follow-ups, the reminders – so you and your team have more time for the important things: conversations, relationships, creativity, and strategy.
This is where platforms like HighLevel come in. I use it in my own business, and for clients too, because it pulls everything into one place: CRM, email, SMS, booking, pipelines, reminders. No more juggling five different tools or retyping the same information in three places.
A few examples of what you can and should automate:
Lead nurture: enquiries go straight into your CRM, tagged correctly, and dropped into an email or SMS sequence.
Appointment scheduling: prospects pick a slot in your calendar, and the reminders are sent automatically.
Client follow-ups: after a call or delivery milestone, the right message goes out without you remembering.
Payment and invoice reminders: overdue invoices are chased automatically – no awkward conversations.
Review requests: clients are nudged for testimonials or reviews at the right moment.
Internal staff reminders: your team gets automatic prompts to complete steps of the process, so nothing gets missed.
The result? Consistency, less stress, and hours back every week. And more importantly, automation frees up your people to do the work that can’t be automated – the human conversations, the creativity, the relationships.
Delegate: Find a “Who” for Every “What”
As a business owner, your focus should be on growing the business, not being buried in it. Like Nigel Botterill from Entrepreneurs Circle says, your job is to lead – not to get stuck in the weeds of day-to-day delivery.
Ideally, you’re not the one delivering your product or service. You’re not tied up in the admin either. But the reality is, not everything can be systemised or automated. Some things still need a person to step in.
That’s where delegation comes in.
Delegation is about making sure you’ve got a “who” for every “what.” If something needs doing, it doesn’t automatically land on your desk. It could be a team member, a freelancer, a VA, or even a service provider.
For example, plenty of clients use our Content Unlimited service to delegate their copywriting. Sure, they could sit there writing it all themselves – but why would they? By handing it over, they free up headspace and time to focus on strategy, delivery, or growth.
Using a “who” lets you systemise and remove yourself from processes that would otherwise keep landing on your desk. The goal isn’t just to get things done – it’s to build a business that makes money consistently, whether you’re working in it or not.
Growth and Freedom Come From the Boring Bits
When you look at any business that’s growing steadily, it’s rarely because the owner is working harder than everyone else. It’s because the foundations are in place. The work gets done, consistently, without drama, and without everything depending on one person.
That’s what systemising, automating and delegating really give you.
Not just time back. Not just fewer headaches. But a business that grows because it can run without you micromanaging every detail.
And that’s the freedom piece too.
Freedom to step back without worrying that balls will get dropped. Freedom to focus on new opportunities instead of firefighting. Freedom to actually enjoy the business you’ve built.
Freedom to live your life however you want to… whether that’s on the golf course, home with your family or even in your office (because you choose to be there!)
Growth and freedom don’t come from doing more – they come from setting up the boring business bits so they take care of themselves.
What Next?
If you want growth and freedom, the path is simple: systemise, automate and delegate. But knowing what to do is only half the battle – the challenge is putting it into practice consistently.
That’s exactly what my Marketing Growth Support service is designed for. I’ll help you eliminate the chaos, build the systems that actually work, and free up your time so you can focus on growing the business instead of being stuck in it.
